Hello sarahwaters folks, i've been hanging on to many many copies (about 20 now) of 'fingersmith' that i got from world book night - trying to give them to the right people (which i don't think was the idea). I'm just having a hard time processing it because it didn't turn out to be what I expected it to be. Fingersmith by Sarah Waters 2002, 582 pages. So striking; so simple; and yet, so much in it. Part of LGBT Week on VL I'd heard of this modern classic from various sources and even knew of the mini-series which aired in the U.K., but had never read it. Guión Peter Ransley (Novela: Sarah Waters). NO ONE was not reading Fingersmith, and I'll be damned if I don't jump on every bandwagon I can catch. So, the other night I dreamed that I was making a post about Fingersmith, which is my favorite romance novel--except I guess that romance novel is a genre, and Fingersmith belongs to a different genre. Ok, I first heard about Fingersmith at Valentina's Room, and then, like, everywhere else. Sarah Waters' Fingersmith not only sets itself in Victorian England, with all its atmosphere and language, but fulfills the requirements to make it a “sensation” novel – a genre popularized in Victorian England. By Sarah Waters I don't really know what to say about this book.
